The Decree: Aborted Ambitions

The wicked's quest to gain the reins of the Nigerian presidency in this season is like a woman's miscarriage which nevers sees the sun. The wicked ones are aiming headless shafts as arrows, they cannot hit the target. The wicked ones are nursing an empty dream and a futile endeavour. All their instruments of warfare are as useless as the shattered teeth in the mouth of a ravenous lion. Like running water flowing away, the wicked shall not be held up. They will be swept away so fast that they will be wondering at what hit them. The wicked will melt away with slime as a travelling snail. The wicked will be swept away as with a whirlwind. Who can advise them to retreat and surrender? Watch out for the establishment of the unyielding righteous.  The Judge of the earth has spoken and no one can reverse it. All who behold it will marvel at how pleasant it is to love God intentionally.

Beggars need to see

A beggar is a person who lives by habitually or occasionally asking for gifts. We could refer to a beggar as a pauper, who completely depends on outside help for survival. Usually, beggars are reduced to a state of poverty or sentenced to the practice of asking for charity. People may resort to begging when they seem to have reached the limit of  their resources or their abilities to create a meaningful livelihood for themselves. As degrading as the status and outlook of a beggar is, most humans may have begged at some point in their life journey. In any case, your beggarly state can help reveal prevailing attitudes among the community of people within which you beg. There will be those who take a long smug look at you for your audacity to approach them for help, when they feel helpless themselves. They may likely disdain you for harassing them with your need and shut their doors to you without offering any encouragement. To them you have become a byword and a proverb.  Just pity their

Hearts Diagnosis

An ugly heart may hide under a fictitious face But a beautiful heart has no hiding place A gullible heart may be bought at short notice But a discerning heart has no price tag A tainted heart is filled with man-made philosophy  But a pure heart is captivated by the reverential and obedient fear of God A false heart fuels an empty life But a true heart kindles a fulfilling dream A greedy heart always cries "give me more" But a content heart says "I have enough" A fainting heart is overwhelmed by limitations But an agile heart soars above problems  A faithless heart has lame feet But a faithful heart has healthy wings  A closed heart has no value for truth But an open heart is priceless ... Fickle doctors may not diagnose all these But the Great Physician does

Gratitude Can See

Whenever we are blind to our blessings, we tend to grumble. If we always see problems as blessings-in-disguise, we will live graciously grateful. ... Gratitude is an expression of vision, and we all need eyes that see beyond the obvious. Have a grateful week ahead.  #Gratitude ✌

The Decree: 13.11.2022

Please mark these words as 2023 draws nigh. The lowly, unpopular but wealthy prince of light, whose delegation has been greatly despised by his countrymen, will gain the kingdom nonetheless. Heaven still rules in human affairs. Those who are sitting at the head of the table, his reserved place, should get up and move away. This decree is signed, sealed, and delivered.

Twitter, Amazon, Meta, Elsewhere, T-A-M-E Job Losses and Labour Market Upheavals

Image
As I prepare for my lecture with graduate students on "Time-in-employment, Labour Mobility and Labour Market Transitions", I am thinking through the trending cases of mass layoff of workers at Twitter, Amazon, Meta, and elsewhere. Below are some nuggets that employees, the suppliers of labour time, who are currently in 'secure' job roles may wish to think through with me. 1. Do not despise the tiny ants in and around your office space, they will likely be there long after you are gone.  You can learn a great deal from ants about how to stay relevant through business cycles and seasons, and build resilience by living-in-preparation. Small creatures can teach great lessons. 2. Do not spend your income without saving up for future job-loss shocks. Save before you spend. One purpose of your current employment is to help you prepare for the inevitable days of future unemployment. You can always afford to err on the side of prudence. Invest into your future while you have t

ROSCAs: Tech Can Amplify Culture

Image
For many centuries, rural economies have used trust-based cooperative methods to generate resources for agriculture and trade. A rotating savings and credit association is a framework that circumvents problems of access to finance, especially transaction costs. Today, the principle behind ROSCAs thrive in modern society and urban economies. Rotating savings and credit associations (ROSCAs) ride on the social capital theory to deliver value to members. Such informally organised trust-based groups facilitate financial inclusion and convenient access to interest-free credit facilities. Across indigenous African societies, different variants of ROSCAs exist, from Èsúsú among the Nigerian Yoruba to the Stokvels of South Africa. Modern technology can amplify indigenous culture, and fintechs demonstrate this.  #Culture #Esusu #Stokvels #Financialinclusion #Cities #Informaleconomy #Tech #Principle #Cooperatives #Ajomoney
