Rather than strictly follow God's directive
The stunning shepherd-wife
Will have herself to blame
If she covets her father's household gods
Rather than wholly cling onto the true God
The loyal man of God
Will have himself to blame
If he decides to lounge off comfort roof
Rather than lead the royal charge to battle
The agile young son
Will have himself to blame
If he chooses to waste his substance on frivolities
Rather than train up in the family farmyard
The promising wise king
Will have himself to blame
If he chooses to court outlandish women
Rather than obey clear Scriptural command
The privileged national leader

If he willfully imprisons a truthful lip
Rather than tremble at God's merciful revelation
The rich young ruler

If he lives under the oppression of wealth
Rather than sell all to follow Christ
The skillful ring leader
Will have himself to blame
If he opts for braggadocio and opulent slumber
Rather than heed the call to watch and pray
