Nigeria Detours

The trajectory of Nigeria's development has been far from smooth.


History has led us through many hills and valleys, mountains and lowlands, rocks and hard places.


Nigeria had been fed with tears as bread and had been drunk with woeful tears as water.


Nigeria had been made a strife to her neighbours.


We had become a byword and a proverb in the mouths of those who once benefitted from our glee.


The enemies of Nigeria laugh her to scorn among themselves.


The trajectory of Nigeria had been a diappointment to the nationalistic and patriotic founding fathers as they turn in their graves.


There had been breaches to the Nigerian security apparatus and strangers had devoured luscious fruits of the Nigerian heritage.


We had looked to men, arms, parties, places, hills and idols for the redemption of the Nigerian dream, all to no avail.


In vain we had relied on helpless foreigners from the four corners of the planet.


Where are those who despise the days of our small and meaningless beginnings?


The Lord is now in the midst of us and we shall be saved.


After the discipline for our past blunders, we now repent and turn to the Most High who restores us.


The Most High is the salvation of our beloved and blessed nation.


O how foolish we had acted!


No longer shall we look to the empty hills, where there is no help.


We now look to the Sovereign King of all the earth, Who rules and reigns in human affairs.


From slavery Nigeria departs for her land of promise, the people become the dwelling place of His glory!


From the house of bread to the watchful tower, Nigeria branches out and now bears fruitful boughs!


The Lord is our Salvation, and He will save us!


Let the light of your face look on us, O God of our salvation and Nigeria shall be saved!


By the grace of the Almighty and All-sufficient God, the Designer and Creator of all things:


Nigeria will be saved!


Nigeria will be transformed!


Nigeria's economy will be diversified!


Dying hope will be revived!


Peace and godly wisdom will reign!


Prosperity will be shared and wide spread!


Value-adding partnerships will be sustained!


God's elect ones will be installed!


The righteous shall be planted, rooted and grounded in all the affairs of our nation!


Our broken institutions of brotherly love, mercy, and justice will be rebuilt!


Nigeria will progress!


The glory of Nigeria's latter days shall be greater than those of her former days!


Nigeria's recovery and restoration is the next economic miracle to be studied by all nations of the world!


Amen: It is done!

I like the tropical fruit called pineapple and it serves as a sweet base for some of my homemade fruit juices. I have observed in recent times as I shop in local markets and around town for pineapple that there are two varieties –  slim-shaped pineapples and robust pineapples. Beginning today Friday 25 th through Sunday 27 th September 2015, Heads of State and Government and High representatives will meet at the 70 th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to ratify the blue print of the post-2015 Development Agenda – Sustainable Development Goals. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development focuses on transforming the world with a focus on 5 Ps – People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership. The blueprint is indeed a product of conscientious consultations involving various stakeholders deliberating and debating various thematic and sub-thematic issues. The Task Force improved on the consultative processes that birthed the MDGs. Many thanks to everyone who has participated in the opinion survey on Nigeria’s 2015 presidential elections powered by Research Policy Shop . You are deeply appreciated. Respondents are male and female Nigerians, of different age groups, religious affiliation, with states of origin spread across the six geopolitical zones. This post is devoted to sharing preliminary results from the Survey. For the most part, respondents (54%) base their prospective voting behaviour on their personal evaluation of the candidate’s past/prospective performance. Another 45% of respondents base their prospective voting behaviour on ‘desirable personal characteristics’ of the choice candidate. A larger percentage of the respondents so far originate from South-West Nigeria. Most of the respondents (72%) noted they are likely to vote for the APC candidate. The Difference is Clear: Nigerian Police Barracks Versus Military/Naval/Air Force Barracks

It is not only of 7Up’s taste that we can say   ‘the difference is clear’ , we can also say same of the Nigerian police barracks in contrast with military/naval/air force (MNA) barracks.  Sometimes, irrespective of their location, the physical state of police residential buildings and adjoining environment is deplorable, with pockets of disorganized vendors and poor waste management systems.  On the better hand, MNA residential areas have relatively cleaner environments, better maintained buildings and organized trading areas. As a development economist, I am bothered that this ‘physical’ differential may be a signal to more serious social welfare issues.
