Towers and Foundations

Macroconomists tend to address holistic policy thrusts that stimulate the volume and direction of economic activity within geographical boundaries. Global economists examine the interplay of temporal currents, cultural diffusion and integration of market and non-market forces beyond borders. Perhaps, if we study time-bound individuals constituting household units that make life-changing and economy-steering decisions, we may be fitly called Household Economists.

He spills virtue And builds us up He springs forth life Stand up for him He kneels in exchange And hails the victory won He waits like patience Stand up for him He knows one way And steps out in confidence He leans on solid rock Stand up for him He cares truly than most And loves like rain He guards the coast Stand up for him He leads like a shepherd And nourishes with open hands He lifts the wounded Stand up for him He rules by reigning And leads in service He shines like a star Stand up for him He touches heaven And changes our earth He quickens the dead Stand up for him He lights the path And lives to groom He shows the way Stand up for him He speaks peace And nurtures the future He cultivates the bread  Stand up for him He repents like wind And forgives in any air He learns to listen Stand up for him He lights the path And humbles in speech He shows the way Stand up for him He trusts only truth And lives the creed He makes my day Stand up for him ... Grateful Spring

Image
I am grateful for the gift of true friends. True friendships last throughout a lifetime, through thick and thin, sunshine and rain. Friendships that end never really started. In life's journey, distance may be necessary, but true friends maintain a heart full of goodwill throughout a lifetime. I am always learning to be better at all I am. ... I am grateful for the precious gift of family. Family is the first compulsory school the Governor of life admitted us into. I am grateful for the invaluable tutors appointed for me, who simply and seamlessly live out their lesson notes. I am grateful for my first house mates and co-learners.  In siblings we tend to encounter every kind of character or attitude we may experience later in wider society. I am grateful for the privilege of being loved and catered for without having to earn it.  If I once felt entitled, now I feel more responsible to be family-friendly, even in my outlook, research, and advocacy. I am also grateful for friends who

Infographic: Household Purchasing Models

Image
As diverse as households characteristics are, so are their monthly requirements. More often than not, set budget items may determine what gets included on regular shopping lists. Moreover, purchasing models adopted by households may depend on the nature of goods - from groceries to durable household equipments - within consideration. Members of middle-income and upper income classes tend to have greater outlays required to make bulk purchases, thereby escaping vagaries of price fluctuations for fast-moving consumer goods.  On the lower rung of the income ladder, members of a low-income class, who may be daily wage earners tend to opt for buy-as-you-go purchasing options. Sadly, many low-income households bear the brunt of rising food prices and commodity price shocks. The amount of time available for regular market visits, may also affect a household's purchasing model. Time-poor householders, who may choose to allocate limited time to other high-value or income-generating activiti

The Household Economy is Good Business

Image
The household economy is the cradle of development in all human societies. Whatever goes amiss or aright in the household economy tend to impact on the macroeconomy and extend to the global economy. As local and global governance institutions come to recognise the fundamental mechanisms of the household economy, care economy and their agents, they move to advance family-friendly policies and equality of opportunity in the interest of sustainable development. Given that inequities breed chaos, conflict, and stifle socio-economic progress, all households, corporates, governments, global institutions and their agents, should prioritise the vulnerable in day-to-day considerations and seek improvements in quality of life for all.
