Resilience and Mobility

Brain drain is a present-day reality. In recent years, favourable immigration policy reforms in developed countries has proved true as a magnet for global talent. In Nigeria, the rising rate of skilled-migration among the youth and middle-class is termed the #japa movement.  For many skilled workers in developing countries, international migration is perceived to be a veritable pathway to human capital development, wider work opportunities, social protection, soul peace, and a steady rise in living standards. Moreover, emerging tales of quantum leaps in migrants' wellbeing heap up demonstration effects that stimulate bandwagon effects in domestic communities.  Are you are a resident, citizen, or keen observer of any developing country in Africa, stifled by rising inflation rates and inequality of opportunities? If yes, to which of the following countries or regions have your skilled acquaintances, work colleagues, neighbours, or family members migrated temporarily or permanently in

Musings: Are you still...?

Still Riding through my journey Holding on to ancient sign posts And keeping house Still Learning through the night Singing a joyful melody And lighting up my day  Still Racing through my present Smelling just lovely flowers And plucking fruits from history Still Sleeping through the sail Rising early to calm any contrary wind And never losing faith  Still Playing through the match Scoring only needful points And staying active until whistle blows Still Sifting through every speech Shielding my nose from filth And feasting plainly on truth Still Grazing through green pastures Trusting only the most high  And leaning on his solid rock Still Leading through a servants' towel Walking around available fig trees And building a winning team Still Looking through the book Mapping out loving routes And taking quantum leaps Still Blooming through the thorns Preparing for prepared place And keeping the peace Still Gliding through the currents Testing every feather And knowing when to renew S

I Choose With Accountability

In a true democracy, the powerful voice of a united citizenry rule the polity. In a false democracy, the ideas of self-interested state captors may guide the polity. In a rejuvenated democracy, citizens hold a stake in every aspect of national life, embrace their duties, and are free to enjoy their rights without crowding out others. Which one of the above depicts your country's current experience? I sincerely commemorate Nigeria's Democracy Day (12th June, 2022) with these few thoughts of mine. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria! ...

To every slave driver, any method that can yield a profitable outcome is always right - lies, half-truths, intimidation, and truths combined. Their end eventually justifies their process. To every empire builder, everyone is a tool and resource. Use them while they are useful, and dump them when they grow useless. To every nation builder, everyone is a travelling gift. Truly value their company while you play host to them, empower them to journey, and uphold them heartily until eternity. To every truthful and reasonable royal bird, the homely mountain is only a temporal tent. Observe and learn, shed weak and worn wings, watch and pray, and live ready to soar to the next Wind-assigned height.

The New Nigeria Has Won!

Image
In Nigeria, the era for colonial rule came to pass. The golden years of visionary founding fathers also fizzled into the air. The periods of military rule came to pass. The rule of money-peddling democracy has now come to pass. In the new #Nigeria, the citizens overcome! #Peace I am a Nigerian. I am not willing to sponsor any of the chips and/or puppets off the old block and stock with my vote. Only the new and wholesome breed without greed has won my consideration. Only the radical opposition to corruption deserves my attention. Only the truly visionary leader with a unifying nation-building ethos qualifies for my vote support.  Only the personality that maintains contact without contamination will truly fix Nigeria. Only the genius, who understands the multiplicities and intricacies of the Nigerian conundrum, has my stage. Only the servant-leader, who stoops to serve and rises to conquer, has won the race before it begins. Long live the Nigeria of my dreams!!! @oluyomioladavid

Informality Is Only Normal

Informal economy evolves to shape the formal economy. Every registered patent began as an informal prototype. Every private equity firm arose from informal founding partnerships.   The public office holder emerged from an informal expression of interest. The listed public corporation perhaps started as a informal merchandising effort. The concept of modern banking enterprise emerged from informal cooperative solutions. ...

Macroconomists tend to address holistic policy thrusts that stimulate the volume and direction of economic activity within geographical boundaries. Global economists examine the interplay of temporal currents, cultural diffusion and integration of market and non-market forces beyond borders. Perhaps, if we study time-bound individuals constituting household units that make life-changing and economy-steering decisions, we may be fitly called Household Economists.

Crypting Occupational Mobility

Image
Enterprising informal economy agents, who tend to display resilience and stability through any cycle of business, may be more likely to remain net demanders of labour while formal economy counterparts experience job change cycles. Arguably, financial insecurity could be the priority determinant of active search for lucrative jobs in the formal labour market. It will be interesting to tease out facts about those enrolled in the labour market just for the fun of assimilating its processes.
